“BEING A MAN”: A MENTORING PROJECT FOR 100 MILLION BOYS IN AFRICA
Boys Mentoring Advocacy Network (BMAN) is a registered non-profit organization established to guide boys and adolescent males on their journey to healthy, caring, respectful, and responsible manhood. The mission of BMAN is to raise boys to stand out by standing up, equip boys to be excellent and nonviolent communicators, teach boys ethical literacy, and train boys to respect the opposite sex.
There is an increasing number of boys growing up without fathers and with male-skewed problems such as poor health, alcohol and drug abuse, rape and sexual abuse, marijuana abuse, cultism, gang violence, homelessness, higher school dropout rate, a declining male labor force participation, declining opportunities for males, and a suicide rate that is the leading cause of death for men aged under 50 which is three times that of the female suicide rate.
Cultism has continued to thrive among boys in Africa. It has become rampant even among secondary school boys. They are hoodwinked and deceived on almost every level to join one secret cult or the other. Our boys are becoming wild and violent and constituting a nuisance to society. Promising young boys have turned to armed robbery, kidnapping, and similar vices. The future of our young men gets bleak on a daily basis.
We cannot fold our arms and allow this menace to destroy the leaders of tomorrow. We have to help them “Be the Man” they would want to become.
Research has revealed that, young adults who were at-risk for falling off track but had a mentor are: 55% more likely to enroll in college, 78% more likely to volunteer regularly, 90% interested in becoming a mentor, 130% more likely to hold leadership positions.
Being A Man is a curriculum-focused mentoring program to help boys and adolescent males achieve the right objective about life and living. To develop and equip the mind of boys for a successful and respectful manhood, there is need to first understand the brain science of boys, identify the qualities of success, persuade them that they have the potential for success, inspire them to succeed and educate them to love, live, learn and leave a legacy.
As part of our efforts to build and improve the quality of life outcomes of 100 million boys and adolescent males by 2030 in Africa to become healthy, caring, respectful and responsible men that will be inspiring figures in their generation. We look forward to welcoming and partnering with schools to the “Being A Man” Mentoring Program.
It is high time we stood together, socially and publicly, to nurture our sons as we have done to change the world for our daughters because every young boy deserves a good man in their life.
To touch someone’s life is more valuable than any amount of money. Help us profoundly touch a life forever because of your existence. Every boy is ONE Caring Adult Away from Being a Successful, Healthy, Caring, Respectful and Responsible Man.
